- Gene Reed Scholarship Fund – no one currently on this committee, volunteers needed
- Meeting Topic: What do you need from WSAHCR in 2021?
- Survey Monkey Results:
- Recruiting/Hiring Metrics (what to measure and how)
- Passive sourcing and new “out of the box” tools for video interviewing/screening etc.
- Medical Assistant data – similar to the Nurse.com nursing data report
- Additional feedback from members:
- Looking for what exactly is being shared! Would like to learn more about metrics.
- Angie shared resource – HealthcareSource has metric/benchmarks/ideas. Additionally, recommends people connect individually within this chapter to share. Would like to see who within chapter has best practices to share /present to a future chapter meeting. A need to continue to share value best practices.
- Sentinel Data – a walk though with data to help conversations with leadership as we need to hire hard to fill talent. Dan will reach out to Sentinel about having this at future chapter meeting.
- Appreciates information shared from different orgs, industry trends, best practices, new tools, speakers.
- Survey Monkey Results:
- Retreat – 2020 Theme will be “Recruiting with Resilience”
Round Table
- HealthPoint – Struggling with MA/DA hiring, ramping up from pandemic, and looking for metrics information. Running extern MA programs which was on hold during pandemic. Have a learner program, host a number of these especially in BH and ramping up hiring there and doing targeting interviewing.
- Valley Medical Center
- Mary Dean – Need for exp’d surgical and critical RNs biggest challenge, overall lack of exp’d candidates. We also struggle with exp’d MA’s (get a lot of new grads), some LPN openings however less exp and union rates lower than what other orgs offer and working with union to analyze this with hopes of increasing wages. What is everybody doing I9s? Right now they are emailing their docs to us, but post-pandemic unsure of what we’ll do to then “see” these physical documents. What is everyone else doing? I9s done in virtually but per regs must then do all workforce this way.
- Taylor Brown – started hosting open houses in 2020 for RN Case Mgrs and will host another one later this month and have dept members there for RNs to talk with. Started new hire orientation weekly to start quickly. Overall good feedback from RN Case Mgr feedback with events.
- Compass Health – Challenged with RNs, LPNs. MA hiring okay, challenged with MH providers with masters degree, then leave for higher pay private practice once gain experience.
- Skagit Regional Health – OR RN exp needs; so many other openings and never had this many openings up to 300. Looking for new ideas: virtual, other?
- Unity Care NW –
- Austyn Woods – Struggling with MA and LPNs esp with market pay and need for doing a marketing analysis. Leveraging contingent staff, good success with NuWest.
- Vickie Curtis – Mostly BH hiring challenges, especially for Child & Family Counselor. We have one part-time med provider position that requires working Saturdays that’s been hard to fill. We are increasing our presence on LinkedIn to see if that helps us w/hard-to-fill positions. We are opening a recruiter role and will share this with the membership distro.
- Evergreen Health
- Scott Young – I only recruit for MA’s, and yes agrees it is tough. I am focusing on quick response rate, within an hour of applying. We also hire with MA-C pending – hire as a medical receptionist, but shows them how serious we are. Also uses NuWest, a hard position to fill, but making headway.
- Gail Chinn – hard time with unit techs, MA’s, many virtual events and started video interview, which has to be helpful. Still doing new hire appointments for badge pictures. Any organizations not doing drug screens for insight?
- Eney Gains-Wrinkle – MA challenges, RN ICU unit difficult and exp’ burnout due to COVID and looking to transfer to other areas of organization. Most apps from our website although we contact with Indeed.com. I have been receiving some apps and when I reach out, no response. And those who do seem to be doing for unemployment reasons. (Other orgs experiencing this such as Aegis). Overall overwhelmed with interest and all at full-capacity with hiring.
- Aegis Living –
- Misty – Seeing trend with so many no-shows for interviews at front lines, even RN no-show with hiring managers. AL can’t compete with pay. With metrics moving forward with new ATS to update data, improve metrics/processes, exciting for 2021 – iCMS. Created own virtual job fair using GoToMeeting, marketed it ourselves, did get one RN hire from it.
- Angie – Noted similarity with pay challenges across different healthcare environments.
- Neighborcare Health – Board will be initiating a CEO search soon & rolling out strategy work with need for financial stability after 2020/COVID. Currently hiring for an HR Coordinator along with a new Leadership & Development Programs Manager role. Highest req loads we have had in 2 years with new FTEs and replacing those who have had to move on to new roles due to COVID related issues (MA/DA) and leaves including making job changes so they can be at home with children (remote learning). We did bargain in continuing education for MA’s which has helped. Shared participation in CareerMD BH virtual event with no ROI.
- Dan Ferguson Community College System – Thank you everyone who shared data with the Sentinel Group and how has this information been/not been beneficial. I wanted to share this new HIT program in partnership with Seattle Colleges – there is an information meeting (with national partners) looking at program development- here is the link to that meeting- https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcudOqhrjkpGdBzXkuE8Kf5Sj6-oTaeo-LY
